Remi Gratian took over the family domaine from his parents Jacques and Marylene (the guardians of the soil) in 2019, along with his co-conspirators Julien (vineyards and vines) and Beatrice, who manages the office. The return to the farm his parents had painstakingly managed for over 40 years was always in Remis plan, and his parents retirement in 2020 means he is now in charge of the 90 hectares of land they have managed organically in their tenure.
The domain, located south of Condom in Gondrin, has 30 hectares under vine, most of which was traditionally used for Armagnac production and Floc de Armagnac, a local sweet fortified wine so popular in this region. It is Remi’s desire to keep this tradition alive, but to also make more of the old vines he has to produce still wines with real local character. He has 10 parcels planted to Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Gros Manseng Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, all either in organic production or in conversion. The aim for the future is to produce wines from the best parcels, and to keep certain vineyards for Armagnac production.
