Xulia Bande's house lies south of Gomariz in the Avia Valley the Beade area of Ribeiro. She farms five parcels over 3 hectares. The first of these is an isolated plot in Porte Leira, a 30 year old, 450 metre altitude vineyard in the south east, and one of the highest parcels in the DO. This is a north west exposition of Souson, Brancallao, Loueiro planted on schist and shallow sandy granite. Closer to the Tui is Salgeiros, a clay heavy vineyard planted to Treixadura and where Xulia has revitilised the soil with manure, and where shcist and quartz from the bedrock. Serna is planted in Gomariz, and is 50 year old Treixadura planted on a sandy clay with pure granite and a southerly exposition. Bieja vineyard is 0.7 hectares of Caino, Souson, Brancallao and a local variety in a separate parcel called Caraboneira Tinto. Xulia obviously works hard in this unforgiving landscape, and has a fascinating understanding of each parcel and the landscape in general.
Vinification is made at her house and her tanks and few barrels are kept in a cool granite built room below the press room (direct press here). Ferments are left to run through and if Malo happens then she does not try to stop it. Bottling happens after at least 1 year in tank. She has also made a curious brace of wines from multi vintages which are still DO labelled even as she gets each wine certified and then blends them when ready to bottle.
